the title of the work is based on a french pun, a mnemonic device, through a homophonic a method.

Effectively, in French :

-“charm” and “ hornbeam” is identically

-“à dents” means “at teeth” and is homophonic of “Adam”

-The verb “to be” is in French “être” and is homophonic of “Hêtre “ that is the beech tree

In English that could done :

“the charm of adam is to be naked”

That means here :

The hornbeam , at teeth,( is) beech tree with bristles.

Because in botanic, to differenciate these trees : the leaf of the hornbeam ( charmer) is serrated and the one of beech tree (hêtre) is with bristles
